Muitas pessoas não conseguem evoluir profissionalmente, não conseguem melhorar seu desempenho e quando melhoram, elas direcionam os créditos de suas conquistas a sorte ou interferência divina, não conseguindo compreender ou enxergar o seu esforço, dedicação e poder de aprendizado.

A síndrome do impostor, atribui se a uma incapacidade em internalizar o sucesso, onde o portador insiste que é incompetente ou pouco inteligente. Costuma estar presente naqueles indivíduos que, de forma excessiva e rotineira, projeta o peso de suas conquistas a fatores como destino, ajuda de outras pessoas, oportunidades surgidas, network, afeição e outros fatores, menos ao seu desempenho pessoal. A pessoa está sempre se considerando menos qualificada, menos valorizada, menos merecedora das realizações obtidas pelo seu trabalho, e/ou qualquer premiação ou situação de sucesso, ficando explícito uma expressão do complexo de inferioridade e baixa autoestima.

Essa síndrome pode desencadear problemas como ansiedade, burnout, depressão e outros transtornos mentais.

A percepção a respeito do sofrimento causado por ter um comportamento autossabotador é o primeiro passo para buscar ajuda profissional.

A pessoa com esse comportamento sabotador, precisa trabalhar essa desordem emocional, internalizando suas aptidões e capacidades, minimizando a percepção de ser um engano no trabalho. E especialmente questionando os pensamentos de incompetência sobre si, buscando comprovar através de evidências fortes, seja através de feedback para pessoas que tenham contato com seu trabalho e que sejam técnicas e de segurança.

Alguns comportamentos podem ser indicativos da presença da síndrome, tais como, sensação de que se é uma fraude, medo permanente de que os outros percebam sua incapacidade, sensação de fracasso, não aceitar elogios tendo a impressão de que são falsos elogios, procrastinação, medo de se expor, etc…
